New Era Cardboard Hat Display Rack

In 2022, we received a message on TikTok from a U.S.-based client interested in developing a cap display rack. The client, a New Era brand agent, planned to stock fashion boutiques across the U.S. in 2023. Without a specific design in mind, the client sought our design team's expertise to create a solution tailored to the needs of boutique retailers.

Project Analysis

Upon receiving the inquiry, we conducted a detailed analysis of the client's requirements:

- Client Profile: As a long-term New Era agent, the client had extensive experience in sourcing fashion-related products from China. While familiar with traditional hat display racks, most of the options he had used were made of metal or wood. These materials, though sturdy, were heavy, inflexible, and unsuitable for boutique store layouts.

- Key Challenges: Given the limited display space in boutiques and the need for frequent repositioning, we determined that traditional materials would not be the optimal choice. Our design team proposed using a cardboard hat display rack for its lightweight, flexible, and customizable properties.

Solution Proposal

Our initial proposal featured a cardboard hat display designed with boutique store requirements in mind:

- Lightweight and Portable: The stand could be easily moved and rearranged within small retail spaces.

- Compact Design: Optimized to maximize the display of New Era hat displays without occupying too much floor space.

Client Feedback

Upon reviewing the initial proposal, the client raised two key concerns:

1. Stability: In high-traffic boutique stores, the lightweight nature of cardboard hat displays raised concerns about the stand tipping over if accidentally bumped.

2. Aesthetic Appeal: The exposed fluted edges of cardboard hat display racks were perceived as unattractive and unsuitable for premium boutique environments.

Refined Solution

To address these concerns, our engineering team revised the design with several innovative enhancements:

1. Structural Stability:

   - Introduced a tilted seat structure to lower the center of gravity, significantly improving stability.

  -Designed tiered shelves (layered compartments) capable of holding 6–10 hats per tier, ensuring better weight distribution. This approach made the hat rack retail display both functional and safe for busy boutique environments.

2. Enhanced Aesthetics:

   - Used folded edges to conceal exposed flutes, creating a clean and polished appearance.

   - Applied full-color printing across the stand, eliminating any visible brown surfaces and aligning with boutique retail standards.

These updates resulted in a hat display rack that was not only lightweight and portable but also stable and visually appealing, meeting both functional and aesthetic requirements.

Client Satisfaction and Results

The client was impressed with our revised design and professional approach, expressing high confidence in our ability to deliver a solution tailored to boutique retail needs. Following approval of the design, the project moved quickly into mass production.
