Initial Client Requirements
The project began with the client providing a rough concept and sketch for the Oreo cookie display stand. Their primary requirements were as follows:
1. The logo on the side panel must have a 3D effect for a striking visual impact.
2. The stand should allow for a double-sided display while maximizing space for print advertisements.
3. The first brand Logo should have a shaking feature to grab consumer attention.
4. The product display should be tilted to make the items easier for customers to access.
5. Each layer should be able to support up to 20kg of weight.
While some of these requirements, such as points 1, 2, and 4, were relatively easy to implement, we faced certain challenges with points 3 and 5. For example, the desire for a shaking logo had to be balanced with the structural integrity required to bear a heavy load. Typically, cardboard display stands have lower load-bearing capacities compared to metal or wooden racks, so we often reinforce them with metal tubes. However, the tilt requirement in point 4 created a conflict, as metal reinforcement generally works best with flat shelves.
Problem-Solving and Innovation
After several rounds of discussion, prototyping, and testing, we came up with a set of creative solutions that addressed each requirement without compromising on quality or performance.
1. 3D Floating Effect for the Logo
To achieve the 3D effect, we opted to cut out the Oreo logo separately and glue it onto the side panel. This created a distinct floating effect that made the display stand more eye-catching. From a retail perspective, this added visual depth, making it a standout retail cookie display.
2. Double-Sided Display for Maximum Exposure
The double-sided display design allowed the Oreo cookie display stand to showcase more cookies and ads within the same space. This setup is especially advantageous for high-traffic areas, as it doubles the chances of consumer interaction from multiple angles, perfect for a cookie bar display or even a Christmas cookie tray display.
3. Innovative Shaking Logo Feature
We tested multiple options for the shaking logo, including electric rockers and LED screens, but these either lacked the desired effect or added unnecessary costs to the project. Ultimately, the WOW team developed an innovative solution: we made a large round hole in the first card, ran a transparent thread through the Logo, and fixed both ends at the top of the display. The logo could then rotate slightly with the natural airflow, creating the desired eye-catching motion. This unique solution was highly praised by the client and added an interactive dimension to the display, making it perfect for creative cookie displays.
4. Solving the Tilt and Load-Bearing Challenge
One of the major challenges was fulfilling the requirement for a tilted display while maintaining the 20kg load-bearing capacity for each shelf. After extensive testing, we replaced the conventional cardboard cutout structure with stronger plastic screws to connect the layer boxes to the side panels. Additionally, we added a back panel to further support the display structure. This allowed the weight to be distributed across the screws and metal tubes, ensuring both stability and strength. The structure is also easier to assemble than traditional cardboard cutouts.
Project Success and Client Feedback
The final result was a sturdy, functional, and visually appealing Oreo sandwich biscuit cardboard display stand. The client was extremely satisfied with both the innovative design and the practical functionality. By ensuring that the display was both cost-effective and high-performing, WOW demonstrated its capability to deliver premium cookie display stands on tight timelines and within budget.
